The Norwalk Police Department was founded in 1856 and has a proud history of service for our community. The Department currently consists of 13 full - time sworn officers, 2 part-time sworn officers and 3 civilians. Our Department is organized into an 8 member patrol force containing 6 patrol officers and 2 sergeants. They provide our continuous response and patrol capability. We have a criminal investigator who is responsible for crime scene and follow-up investigations, also serves as the custodian of evidence. The school resource officer serves full time in the schools, working directly with students, parents, staff and school officials to keep our schools safe. That officer is also responsible for the event security, DARE, Summer Police Academy and all of our in school counter crime programs. We also have an officer assigned to our are Drug Enforcement Administration Drug Tasks Force. The civilian support staff receives telephone calls, visitors, dispatches requests for service, processes and maintains police records and provides office support. This operation is managed by the Chief and Assistant Chief of Police.
